Woman arrested for Guatemalan bus bombing

In Guatemala City, Guatemala, seven people were killed when a bus was bombed on Monday, January 3rd by Sonia Veliz, a member of the Mara 18 street gang. She brought a bag on the bus and left it on, and got off the bus before it exploded. This was a very tragic and devastating event. This event isn't something that happens every day, and it's not something to be expected. But I believe that this could have been easily prevented. I think that if the other passengers on the bus or the bus driver had seen that the woman left her bag, then they should have taken some precautionary action. They should have looked inside to see what was in the bag, because if they had seen it before it detonated, their lives could easily have been saved.

Secondly, the woman that planted the bomb had been instructed to by her gang leader, who instructed her to do so from jail. I believe that if conversations between prisoners and people of the outside world should be monitored and recorded. If the conversations were monitored, the employees at the jail could have heard the conversation and heard the instructions to plant the bomb, and they could have stopped the woman from carrying out the task.
